Event: The Miniclick Soapbox – Tues 26th May

April 13, 2015 by Jim Stephenson

Miniclick are based in Brighton but we like to think we travel well. We’ve hosted events all over the UK, plus a memorable discussion in Sierra Leone. Of course, London has been an occasional second home so we’re pleased to announce a new regular event we’ll be holding at The Dissenting Academy in Dalston, London –  The Miniclick Soapbox. Each time we’ll feature a new lineup of 5 photographers who will take the stage to do short talks (under 7mins) on […]

Event: Cut & Paste at LOOK/15 / Fri 15th and Sat 16th May, 2015

April 6, 2015 by Jim Stephenson

Two years ago we headed to Liverpool to be a part of their international photography festival, LOOK, and we’re delighted to be heading back to be a part of their opening weekend again in May this year with CUT & PASTE. We’ll be at Tate Liverpool on Albert Dock, working alongside their exhibition of György Kepes‘ beautiful pictograms and photomontages. Visitors will be invited to create their own unique photomontage that they’ll be able to take home with them. Their montages will also be included […]

Talk: Dafna Talmor, Lucia Pizzani and Esme Horne – Mon 27th April

February 24, 2015 by Bryony Good

Throughout photographic publications, degree shows and exhibitions we are seeing a growing leaning towards the abstract within contemporary photography. Hand in hand with this movement is a growing interest in vintage and analogue techniques, as if practitioners are looking backwards in order to explore new ground with the medium. Dafna Talmor, Lucia Pizzani and Esme Horne all in their own way explore the innovative and experimental techniques that are beginning to shape this field. We are very pleased to have all three […]

Project: The Miniclick Mobile Library

February 6, 2015 by Jim Stephenson

// The Miniclick Mobile Library // Our Traveling Photo Bookshelf The Mobile Library was launched in March 2015, providing a travelling library of photography and illustration books and ‘zines and an online outlet to help market them. As we visit festivals around the country and host our own events, we bring a selection of the books that have been donated by publishers, photographers and artists, for the public to peruse. The idea is to create a relaxed atmosphere where visitors can sit […]

Work: Jo Dressler and Harry Rose

February 4, 2015 by Jim Stephenson

Over the course of our ‘Another Way of Looking’ season back in November, we had a couple of people helping us out that went above and beyond in donating their time and efforts as we hosted events, workshops and exhibitions. Turns out, they were both photographers too, so we thought we’d take a look at their work on our blog… Jo Dressler Jo’s work beautifully combines her illustration with her photographic portraiture to create these striking images, influenced by her […]

February 3, 2015 by Jim Stephenson

THE HEART GROWS FONDER. Miniclick’s ongoing experimental project, established in July 2014, invites creative submissions in response to Marshall McLuhan’s seminal book, The Medium is the Massage. This project seeks to address McLuhan’s warnings of the distancing effect of new media, via an online and print community, which is dedicated to bringing people together through use of these mediums. +++ The Heart Grows Fonder will be at FORMAT in March and we’re looking for submissions now! Sat March 14th and Sunday March 15th […]

Talk: Jane Hilton – Mon 23rd March

January 30, 2015 by Jim Stephenson

In 2010 we got hold of a copy of ‘Dead Eagle Trail’, a photographic documentation of America’s 21st century cowboys. It remains one of our favourite photobooks and we’re delighted to say that the photographer behind it, Jane Hilton, is coming to Brighton to give a free talk on her work and screen one of her documentaries produced with the BBC. +++ Monday 23rd March. Doors at 6pm, kicks off at 7pm. Free Entry at The Old Market, Brighton. Free Entry. +++ Jane Hilton, […]

Talk: Milo Belgrove and Chris Nunn – Tues 24th Feb, 2015

January 16, 2015 by Jim Stephenson

Around this time last year we saw the protests in Maiden Square, Kiev in full swing, with photographers from all over the world descending to document the troubles. Chris Nunn and Milo Belgrove were two photographers who headed out as well, Chris to continue his work in the country, and Milo for the first time. They both chose to photograph a different side of a country in flux, focusing on the people and life continuing against a tumultuous backdrop. We’re very pleased […]

Day 24 – The Miniclick Photobook Advent Calendar, 2014

December 24, 2014 by Jim Stephenson

Christmas Eve! It’s been a great year for Miniclick and we’ve got to work with some amazing new people as well as some of our regular favourites. Since it’s Christmas Eve, we thought we’d reflect on some of the zines we put out on the Miniclick Press… Way back in June this year we published five ‘zines from five Brighton based photographers. Or at least five photographers who were based in Brighton when we launched then. Kevin Meredith took us sea […]
