18th June, ’14 – Reasons to be Cheerful, London

May 25, 2014 by Jim Stephenson

Every year, hundreds of photography graduates spill out of their universities, wide eyed and excited, to be met by too many doom-mongers. A precession of weary heads, eager to tell the newcomers that there’s no money in photography, there’s no room for anymore photographers, photography is dying. It simply isn’t true. We are in extremely exciting times and Newport’s graduating students, along with The Miniclick Photography Talks, have put together an evening to celebrate this. The Attic, Hackney Picture House, London.  Wednesday […]

Jon Tonks – Empire

March 30, 2014 by Jim Stephenson

Following on from Jon Tonk’s Miniclick talk in March, we’ve been taking a deeper look into his work over on our Tumblr, including some ‘further reading’ projects by other photographers that touch on similar themes, and this quick review of his book… Tonks’ Empire project is fully realised in a sold out book that was released last year. Published by Dewi Lewis and with a foreword from Christopher Lord the book feels every bit as considered, classic and British as the […]

2nd April ’14 – Barbara Nitke

February 9, 2014 by Jim Stephenson

For a long time Brighton has lacked a photography gallery of note, putting on exciting exhibitions and not just photos of the piers at sunset. Fortunately, between Space @ Create and One Eyed Jack’s, over the last year we’ve been spoilt as the two new spaces have been curating some fantastic shows. For the first time, on April 2nd, we’ll be working with OEJ to present a talk from Barbara Nitke just a couple of days before her show at […]

17th Feb ’14 – Niall McDiarmid

January 28, 2014 by Jim Stephenson

Way back in May last year we took 10 photographers up to Liverpool to put on a series of short talks as part of LOOK/13’s opening weekend at The Bluecoat. One of them was Niall McDiarmid, someone we’d been keen to work with for a while. He smashed through the 10 minute time limit we’d given the speakers but we didn’t mind too much as we were having so much fun listening to him. Since then, he’s published a book […]

The Tim Hetherington Award, 2014

January 7, 2014 by Jim Stephenson

Earlier last month we teamed up with Dukes at Komedia to host a screening of “Which way is the Front Line From Here? The Life and Time of Tim Hetherington”, a touching film recounting the life of Photographer and Humanitarian, Tim Hetherington. We worked closely with the Hetherington family in order to organise this event and have been asked by the Hetherington’s to pass on their gratitude for supporting the event and showing interest in their son’s life. One of […]

Jan 14th ’14 – (P)Review of the Year
