Discussion: Scare Tactics – Tues 27th Oct, 2015

In October we’re working with Curtis James to curate a series of events that explore the link between photography and film and the paranormal. Join us as Miniclick contacts The Spirit Side…

In our final event of the series, we’re looking at how we use film, photography, music and sound and writing to scare people, in a panel discussion appropriately named “Scare Tactics”. The panel will include writer, actor and producer Graham Duff, sound designer Joakim Sundström, film maker Anthony Ing and musician Simon James. Graham will also be hosting the panel discussion.

Tuesday 27th October. Doors at 6pm, kicks off at 7pm.

Free Entry at  The Old Market, Brighton.

Joakim Sundström

Joakim Sundström is a Swedish supervising sound editor, sound designer and musician. He collaborates regularly with British director Michael Winterbottom. Recent films include Peter Stricklands Berberian Sound Studio, the Nick Cave documentary musical drama 20,000 Days on Earth and 45 Years staring Charlotte Rampling and Tom Courtney. He was also supervising sound editor on Berberian Sound Studio in which a sound engineer’s work for an Italian horror studio becomes a terrifying case of life imitating art.

Graham Duff

Graham Duff is a screenwriter, actor and producer.  He wrote seven series of BBC3’s award winning comedy horror ‘Ideal’ starring Johnny Vegas, three series of Mark Gatiss’s Radio 4 sci-fi sit-com ‘Nebulous’ and co-wrote two series of BBC2’s ‘Hebburn’ starring Vic Reeves.

He also script edited the Alan Partridge movie ‘Alpha Papa’ as well as seven series of Radio 4’s Sony award winning Count Arthur Strong’s Radio Show.  As an actor he’s appeared in ‘Doctor Who’ and the ‘Harry Potter’ films.  He also created and wrote the forthcoming horror anthology series for Sky Arts ‘The Nightmare Worlds of H.G. Wells’ starring Ray Winstone and Michael Gambon.

Simon James

With over 20 years experience making music, programming electronic instruments and manipulating sound, Simon¹s unique approach has its basis in experimentation and a passion for discovering and creating new sounds. His most recent work under the name black channels has seen a single release on cult soundtrack label Death Waltz, which Mojo described as ‘a swirling cauldron of noir-ish synth psychedelics, rain patter beats and pure soaring vocals’. An album is nearing completion and will see release in 2016.

Anthony Ing

Anthony Ing is a writer, documentary producer and composer.

Following on from the success of 2014’s Beyond Clueless, (a documentary exploration of the art form that is Teen movies) Anthony has teamed up again with director Charlie Lyne to produce a BBC iPlayer commissioned film, Fear Itself.

Constructed entirely from existing films, Fear Itself is a personal journey through fear and cinema that asks whether horror movies know us better than we know ourselves.

Fear Itself is available to watch on iPlayer having reached number two in the iPlayer chart on its release. Proudly beating Doctor Who and Strictly Come Dancing…
