Event: Photobook Weekend at Photomonth – Sat 10th and Sun 11th Oct, 2015

We’re very pleased to be working with Hoxton Mini Press and Photomonth at their Photobook Weekend in October. We’re organising a series of talks on ‘The Life and Times of a Photobook’ to run in a space on the Truman Brewery site that will also host 8 of the finest independent photobook publishers, selling their wares.

Meet the publishers, smell the paper, join the discussion. Just don’t say ‘print is dead’.

Saturday 10th October and Sunday 11th October. Talks 3pm to 5pm.

Free Entry at SHOP 7, Dray Walk, 50m off BRICK LANE, E1 6QL

The book fair is on from Midday to 7pm on Friday 9th and Saturday 10th and Midday to 6pm on the Sunday 11th. Our talks will be on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th. Each talk will be a conversational journey through the theme with Miniclick and a different publisher and artist. Here’s the full lineup…

Talk 1.

Sat at 3pm – ‘Why Publish?’ with Martin Usborne of Hoxton Mini Press.

Hoxton Mini Press was founded in 2013 by Martin Usborne and Ann Waldvogel and is an independent publisher making collectable art books about East London. We think that Hackney and its surroundings are the city’s most exciting and vibrant areas.

We also think that art books should be accessible. We work with the best photographers, illustrators and writers (both established and upcoming) to make books so beautiful and charming you’ll keep them for your grandchildren.

Talk 2.

Sat at 4pm – ‘Working with Artists’ feat. Jack Latham.

Jack is a freelance photographer, born and raised in Wales, now living and working in Brighton. Jack graduated from the highly regarded Documentary Photography course at Newport University, South Wales in 2012. His work is presented in a mixture of large format photography and digital film making and has been realised in several self-published books and shown internationally. Jack’s first book, A Pink Flamingo, was released earlier this month at Diffusion International Photography Festival.

Talk 3.

Sun at 3pm – ‘Designing for Books’ with Maxwell Anderson of Bemojake.

Bemojake is an independent publisher based in London. We publish limited edition books, working in close collaboration with the artist and designer. The imprint was started by Maxwell Anderson in 2011.

Talk 4.

Sun at 4pm – ‘A Celebration of Print’ with Bruno Ceschel of Self Publish Be Happy.

Bruno Ceschel is a writer, publisher and lecturer at the Camberwell College of Arts—University of the Arts London and École cantonale d’art de Lausanne.

He is the founder of Self Publish, Be Happy, an organisation that collects, studies, and celebrates self-published photobooks through an ongoing program of workshops, live events, and off/online projects. Self Publish, Be Happy has organised events at a number of institutions around the world, including Tate Modern, The Photographer’s Gallery, Serpentine Galleries, C/O Berlin, Aperture Foundation and Kunsthal Charlottenborg amongst others.
