Talks: LGBTQ – Weds 27th July

Ahead of Brighton Pride at the beginning of August, Miniclick are working with local project, Into the Outside to present a series of talks that speak of the experience of being LGBTQ in 2016.

Funded by Heritage Lottery Fund and delivered by Photoworks, Into the Outside is a photography and archive project offering  local young people an opportunity to explore and reflect upon Brighton & Hove’s existing LGBTQ archives and then create their own archive that speaks of the experience of being LGBTQ in 2016.  The project discusses a range of themes and questions ways of thinking, feeling and speaking about gender, sexual orientation and Queer theory and politics, through the insightful and poignant eyes and minds of a group of young people aged 13-24. Photoworks are delivering the project in partnership with Brighton & Hove’s Library Service and the Mass Observation Archive.
Speakers for the evening include some of the young people involved in the project plus artist facilitator, Helen Cammock.

Work made during the project will be showcased online, at Pride 2016, Brighton Photo Biennial, and LGBT History month in 2016/17.This thirteen-month project is delivered by Photoworks in partnership with Brighton & Hove Library Services and The Keep (including Mass Observation Archives and East Sussex Records Office).

Into The Outside’s artist facilitator Helen Cammock will introduce the project’s history and how it’s been developing over the past few months and then two participants will talk about their experience of the project so far and show some work in progress.
