Miniclick Bristol is back! As autumn colours are surrounding us, this November we will be joined by Tami Aftab, a British-Pakistani photographer based in London. Aftab will be talking about her practice and the intersection between her personal, editorial and commercial work, sharing with us her approach to collaboration. Aftab will also talk about her new book ‘The Rice is on the Hob’ which is co-authored by Tony and Tami Aftab that includes Tony’s recipes along with Tami’s photographs. Followed by a Q&A session, the audience will be able to buy a copy of Aftab’s book at the end of her talk!
‘I’m a British-Pakistani photographer based in London, and have been taking images since teenage years, with family and friends continuously being my main form of muse. My work touches on subjects of intimacy, identity, and performance, with an underlying nature of playfulness. I document and collaborate with people through photography, to create images that tell stories, memories and a sense of agency.
Since 2018 I have been collaborating with my Dad, Tony, who has a unique form of short-term memory loss that occurred as an accident in operation for his hydrocephalus. The inspiration from this project comes from day-to-day nuances of our family life, from post-it notes left all over the house such as “the dog’s in the car” and “put your teeth in”, to memories such as Dad recounting the bucket baths he’d have growing up in Pakistan. This project is on-going within many forms, and is continuing to grow with an exciting addition coming later this year, it’s something we hope to continue collaborating on forever.’
