LEEDS: Talk with Liza Dracup and Lucy Ridges, 21st March ‘19

For our next talk in Leeds we will be exploring our relationship with the natural world. For this we have Liza Dracup talking to us about her atmospheric photography of natural history and her processes of working. Joining Liza is Lucy Ridges, talking us through her subtly abstract portraits and how she creates them.

Liza Dracup

Liza Dracup is a photographer and a Photography Lecturer at Leeds Trinity University teaching and developing their new Photographic degree programme. She is currently working on a commission from NEPN exploring the natural world illuminated by artificial light and inspired by the historical ideas of Victorian Joseph Swan (the notable inventor of the electric light bulb).

Her work questions how photography made in response to specific (northern) landscapes and natural histories can operate within the field of landscape aesthetics and align with the wider cultural debates about the value of the ‘local’ from an environmental and personal perspective.
