7th June, ’14 – Photobook BBQ, Brighton

Come and join Photobookshow and Miniclick for a summer afternoon of BBQ and Photobooks at One Eyed Jack’s gallery, Brighton. From 1pm in the gallery’s garden, come along with your favourite photobook, BBQ food and drink to join our social, meet new folk, catchup with old folk and share why the book you’ve bought is your favourite. We’ll supply the bread rolls, chefs and ketchup.

At 3pm (until 4pm) we’ll have a panel discussion featuring a group of photographers, publishers and journalists discussing their favourite book and if there’s a recipe in creating a great photobook. Then it’s back to the BBQ and drinks.

The gallery will also be showing Photobookshow’s latest exhibition, of over 100 Japanese photobooks.

Free Entry / Sat 7th June / 1pm onwards (panel discussion at 3pm) / One Eyed Jack’s, Brighton.

Please bring your own food and drink (and photobook). We’ll make sure we have separate BBQs for meat and vege.

Our panel will be chaired by Miniclick founder Jim Stephenson and will include Matt Henry and Owen Harvey discussing what makes their favourite photobook so good.

“I am London based photographer, graduating from the University of Wales, Newport in 2013.

In 2012 I was chosen as the Magnum Showcase winner by Bruce Gilden for my on going project on the current UK Mod scene. Since then, the project has gone on to be shortlisted for the Magnum Photos 2013 award, shortlisted for the Cream graduate showcase, as well as the Athens Photo Festival. I was also fortunate enough to be included in the SHOTS directory, as a finalist in the SHOTS young photographer of the year for 2013. I am now working as a freelance photographer and also still working on long term personal projects.”

zines

Zines of the Zone is a mobile library dedicated to self-published photobooks, photozines, fanzines using photography – and any DIY printed matter related to photography.

We are currently traveling across Europe by van – in order to show our collection to people, organize pop-up events, collect new books and meet local publishers. More than a library, it is a traveling zine-exhibition. Our aim is to create a european network and generate a public and mobile archive out of these alternative practices.
