18th June, ’14 – Reasons to be Cheerful, London

May 25, 2014 by Jim Stephenson

Every year, hundreds of photography graduates spill out of their universities, wide eyed and excited, to be met by too many doom-mongers. A precession of weary heads, eager to tell the newcomers that there’s no money in photography, there’s no room for anymore photographers, photography is dying. It simply isn’t true. We are in extremely exciting times and Newport’s graduating students, along with The Miniclick Photography Talks, have put together an evening to celebrate this. The Attic, Hackney Picture House, London.  Wednesday […]

Miniclick / Sierra Leone Link.

May 14, 2014 by Jim Stephenson

Last month Miniclick held it’s first talk abroad, in Sierra Leone. We’ve been working closely with the Tim Hetherington Trust and the Sierra Leone Photographer’s Union in order to build links between photographer in the UK and in SL and to provide photographers in Freetown with websites. Sierra Leone has arguably the worst internet access in the whole continent of Africa and because of which many photographers out there haven’t got the facilities to setup their own websites. There is a growing feeling […]

Interview with Jen Davis

March 30, 2014 by Jim Stephenson

Back in August 2012, we put together our second publication which focused on portraiture and featured the work of 8 different photographers alongside 7 exclusive articles and interviews on the same theme. We featured the self portraiture of Jen Davis and to coincide, Lou Miller and Jim Stephenson chatted to her about her work. Miniclick: We read a really interesting quote of yours that got us thinking about the psychological side of your work. You were talking about a photograph […]

Jon Tonks – Empire

March 30, 2014 by Jim Stephenson

Following on from Jon Tonk’s Miniclick talk in March, we’ve been taking a deeper look into his work over on our Tumblr, including some ‘further reading’ projects by other photographers that touch on similar themes, and this quick review of his book… Tonks’ Empire project is fully realised in a sold out book that was released last year. Published by Dewi Lewis and with a foreword from Christopher Lord the book feels every bit as considered, classic and British as the […]

23rd Jan ’14 – ‘Zine Binding

January 9, 2014 by Jim Stephenson

Back in November we held the first of our Miniclick Paper Fairs with Design Brighton and Photobookshow. We had 35 photographers, illustrators, graphic designers and publishers take up space to show their work and sell their wares. Plus there were talks and panel discussions going on throughout the day. We also asked everyone to bring along their favourite piece of paper that we could photograph then print, collate, fold, cut and bind the images into a live ‘zine that was […]
